KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of a ‘provocative’ statement made by Senator Ilyas Bilour of the Awami National Party against the MQM.
Speaking at a press conference here at the Lal Qila ground on Friday, MQM leader Faisal Subzwari appealed to all political parties to condemn Mr Bilour’s remarks.
The ANP senator made some comments about the MQM during a TV programme on Feb 9. Recording of his remarks was shown at the MQM’s press conference.
Mr Subzwari, who is a member of the Sindh cabinet, said Mr Bilour had stated in the TV programme that it was the ANP that reined in the MQM in Karachi and not any Sindhi feudal lord.
He said Senator Bilour had in fact admitted that the ANP was directly involved in the killing of MQM workers and sympathisers in Karachi.
He criticised the ANP-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying it had failed because of its misdeeds and corruption.
“The ANP leaders, instead of showing remorse on the killing of innocent workers and sympathisers of MQM, are expressing their jubilation and presenting this as a feat in support of someone’s candidacy for Senate.”
Mr Subzwari appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take notice of the matter. Several family members of those killed in Karachi violence also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the chief justice for justice.
