PESHAWAR, Feb 10: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Amir Muqam has announced to contest coming general election from NA-4, Peshawar, and rename all the development schemes he had initiated during his tenure as federal minister in Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet.

Speaking at a public meeting at Urmar Miana area of Peshawar on Friday, he strongly criticised the Awami National Party and its provincial government for renaming Peshawar airport as Bacha Khan International Airport.

Mr Muqam said that the PML had constructed the development schemes, but now the ANP leaders were busy renaming these old schemes after their leaders. He said that four-year stint of the ruling parties had given the masses the gifts of price hike, joblessness and loadshedding.

He said that the lucrative national institutions like Pakistan Steel Mills, PIA and Pakistan Railways were at the verge of collapse due to excessive corruption of the rulers.

He said that as a coalition partner the ANP was responsible for destroying the country’s institutions and the people should reject it in the next general elections.

The PML-Q leader also claimed credit for providing natural gas to the people of NA-4 and getting approval of funds for the Lowari tunnel project.

“I will contest the next elections from NA-4 and change the backward areas of Urmar into a model constituency,” he announced.

PML-Q provincial general secretary Mushtaq Ghani, Peshawar district president Sifatullah, and MPAs Ghulam Mohammad, Fazalullah Khan and Irshad Khan also spoke on the occasion.
