Gonzalez set to retire

SANTIAGO, Feb 10: Former world number five Fernando Gonzalez of Chile revealed on Thursday that he intends to play three more tournaments before retiring.

“I’ve decided to end my career as a professional player in Miami,” said 31-year-old Gonzalez of the tournament which begins on March 21.

The 2007 Australian Open finalist and four-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist will also play in tournaments inSao Paulo and Buenos Aires.

During his 12-year career he won three Olympic medals — silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze in Athens and doubles gold at the same 2004 Games — and 11 ATP titles.—AFP
