LAHORE, Feb 9: The police got back custody of Saleem Masih (a sweeper in an army unit), who was allegedly forcibly taken away from the Misri Shah police station by army personnel on Wednesday evening, and obtained his physical remand from a local court. An official told Dawn Saleem was handed over to the police along with two snatched weapons, a wireless set and the FIR registered by army personnel on Thursday.
He said Saleem, arrested by SI Javed Iqbal in connection with a case registered in 2011, was produced before an area magistrate who granted three-day physical remand. He said ASI Khalid Mahmood was the new IO of the case.
The official said as the issue was amicably resolved between the two sides, the case registered by the police would hardly be pursued.—Staff Reporter
