ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: A scuffle between two groups of fruit and vegetable vendors claimed life of one person while two others were injured in capital’s rural area on Saturday.The rival groups, an Afghan and a Pashtun, used weapons and batons in the scuffle resultantly a vendor Wazir Khan, 25, was killed while his two rivals Wali Jan and Ali Jan were injured.
The vendors used to sell vegetables and fruits on the carts at Khana, police said.
Police said earlier, Wazir Khan had a dispute with Wali Jan and Ali Jan over the selling point. They thrashed each other butother vendors intervened and cooled them down.
On Saturday, a group riding on five vehicles came to house of Wazir Khan and after calling him out started beating him.
Hearing noise, family members and neighbours of Wazir Khan rushed to rescue him which led to a brawl between the two groups. Both rival groups thrashed each other with batons.
As a result Ali Jan suffered critical injuries.
During the brawl some members of the both the groups started firing at each other which resulted in bullet injuries to Wazir Khan and Ali Jan.
Later, the attackers fled the scene taking injured Wali Jan and Ali Jan with them.
Wazir Khan was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Likewise, the other two injured were also shifted to hospital.
Police said Wazir Khan was an Afghan national while Wali Jan and Ali Jan were Pashtuns who enjoyed support of area’s influential persons.
Over Friday’s incident, a Jirga was convened to settle the issue between two groups, but before it the Pashtun group attacked their rivals.
