ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday signed two agreements, a bill and two notifications including one that confirmed the appointment of three jurists as additional judges of Sindh High Court (SHC), said president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar.
The three lawyers confirmed as judges of the SHC were Justice Mohammad Tasnim, Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar. Their appointment was proposed by the Judicial Commission and the proposal was agreed to by the Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of Judges.
The president also approved one-year extension in the service of Justice Nisar Mohammad Sheikh of the SHC, said Mr Babar.
President Zardari also signed the instrument for ratification of the agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation between Pakistan and Romania. The bilateral agreement was signed on Sept 12 and later approved by the federal cabinet. Under the agreement the two sides shall encourage bilateral cooperation in economic, scientific and technical fields.
According to Mr Babar, the president also signed the instrument for ratification of the Preferential Trade Agreement among the Developing-8 countries. The agreement which was signed in Indonesia was approved by the cabinet in December.
Mr Zardari also gave assent to the Carriage by Air Bill 2012. The bill seeks to give effect in Pakistan to the conventions concerning international carriage by air, known as the Montreal Convention.
