Another eight lose battle for life to spurious drugs

LAHORE: The suspected drugs’ reaction claimed lives of another eight patients on Thursday, raising the toll to 127.

According to sources, Syed Abbas of Shadbagh and Zafar of Sodiwal died at Services Hospital, Sheikh Siddique of Sabazazar at Shaikh Zayed Hospital and Muhammad Anwar of Multan Road and Liaquat Masih of Thokar Niaz Beg died at Jinnah Hospital.

The health department confirmed only two deaths relating to the drugs’ reaction at Services Hospital during the last 24 hours.

A spokesman said 26 patients affected by reaction of PIC-administered medicines had been discharged from various hospitals during the last 24 hours. A total 451 patients have been discharged after treatment all over the province so far.

He said 51 patients were discharged from Jinnah Hospital, 286 from Services Hospital, nine from LGH, 24 from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and 63 from Mayo Hospital.

Meanwhile, 317 patients are still admitted to various hospitals -- 54 in Jinnah Hospital, 24 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 153 in Services Hospital, eight in Lahore General Hospital and 62 in Mayo Hospital, he said.

SARGODHA: Three patients suffering from heart diseases died of medicine reaction in Sahiwal tehsil, reports APP.

THQ hospital authorities said that 58 heart patients from Sahiwal tehsil were registered with PIC and they were regularly taking medicines from the institute. Ch Shafiq, a resident of Farooqa, Barkhurdar of Nehang and Anwar Khan of Dinpur died of drug reaction.
