Bookies held in police raid in Lahore

LAHORE: Police arrested two bookies involved in gambling on international cricket matches and seized match books and related material during a raid at a house in C-Block of the Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday.

Defence A Station House Officer Hamid Akhtar told Dawn that a police team raided a two-kanal house on a tip-off and took Zaigham Abbas and Zulfikar Ali in custody.

He said the police seized a huge match book involving 45 telephone lines, besides television sets, LCDs, video tapes and other material from the spot.

He said the suspects were booking orders on the ongoing cricket match between Australia and India.

Akhtar said the suspects had shifted to house in C-Block a couple of months ago and were involved in gambling worth millions.

He said a case (107/12) under Sections 6, 7 and 78 of Gambling Act had been registered against the suspects.
