Tax collection stands at Rs155.1bn

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: Revenue collection has registered a growth of 14.5 per cent in July-November to Rs155.1 billion against Rs135.5 billion revenue collected during the same period of 2001-02.

However, according to provisional figures released by the CBR on Saturday, the receipts fell by Rs1.5 billion short of the target of Rs156.6 billion set for the same period.

On monthly basis, the statistics showed the tax authorities collected Rs30.2 billion in November this year against the target of Rs31.8 billion for the same month, showing a decrease of Rs1.6 billion. While in comparison to the collection of last year of Rs24.8 billion during the same month, it registered a growth of 21.7 per cent.

Further break-up showed the tax authorities collected Rs74.27 billion towards sales tax during the July-November period of the current financial year against Rs59.91 billion collected during the same period last year, showing an increase of 23.96 per cent.

Under the head of customs Rs22.24 billion were collected this year during the same period against Rs16.63 billion netted over the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 33.73 per cent, while Rs16.03 billion were collected under the head of central excise duty (CED) this year against Rs16.85 billion in the last year, registering a decrease of 4.86 per cent. The tax authorities collected Rs42.6 billion under the head of income tax during the first five months of the current financial year against Rs42.12 billion collected during the same period of last year, showing a marginal increase of 1.13 per cent.

The tax authorities expect to collect Rs2 billion more when the revenue collection figures up to November 30 are finalized in the next 10 days. They said that if they succeeded in collecting Rs157 billion in the first five months, it would mark an improvement of almost 16 per cent as compared to the collection of the same period of last year.
