NAWABSHAH, Jan 29: Police raided a village in the constituency of a former minister, allegedly manhandled women and children and looted valuables on Sunday. During the raid police searched the houses in Jalal Dahiri village near Daulatpur. However, no one was arrested.

Talking to reporters, a notable of the village Dr Qalandar Bux, accused police of carrying out the raid under the command of SHO of Daulatpur.

The village, he alleged, had been raided for the third time in a week at the behest of a special assistant to the Sindh chief minister.

He said the villagers were being victimised for supporting former minister Khan Mohammad Dahiri.

He also accused police of lodging fake case against 60 people who were on bail from the Sindh High Court. Because of the raids, a large number of people had shifted to houses of their relatives, he said.

He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and representatives of human rights organisations to take up the matter and provide security and justice to them.

SHO of Daulatpur Nadir Bhatti, however, said the village had been raided to arrest two criminals who had taken refuge there.
