LAHORE, Nov 29: Punjab Assembly speaker Afzal Sahi reserved his ruling on a constitutional point of order raised by PPP’s Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan who had pointed out that the session called by the President to ascertain leader of the
House was illegal and unconstitutional.
The PPP legislator from Faisalabad had asserted that according to the Article 109 of the constitution, only provincial governor could summon or prorogue the house.
“There’s no provision in the 1973 constitution for the president to summon the session. Hence, this session is not in accordance with the law,” he stated.
The chair, however, reserved its ruling on the point of order, reminding the member that the “inaugural session during which the members had taken oath was also summoned by the president”.
