At a live demonstration arranged under the aegis of the Pivot Point Institute and organised by Daulat Rahimtoola of Ravissant Salon, the possibility of revolutionising the way make-up is used and applied in this part of the world was madey clear to the beauty professionals and select invitees who attended it.

Nabiha Bukhari Zeeshan, CEO of the concept store The Square in Lahore, was the dynamic young expert invited to demonstrate the art of the 10-minute makeover. She used a high-end product such as Kevyn Aucoin Beauty specialist make-up.

According to her, it requires minimal application. And it is used by celebrity women all over the world, including Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Oprah Winfrey and many others, and to doll up stars of shows such as Sex in the City and The Oscars. Closer to home, Juggan Kazim is just one of the few celebrities to whom Nabiha associated the use of the make-up line that is gradually making inroads in Pakistan, along with noted make-up artists Khawar Riaz and Shehzad Raza of Ather Shehzad.

For those not initiated, the late Kevyn Aucoin was a renowned Hollywood make-up artist in the ’80s and ’90s who has to his credit an impressive clientele comprising the leading ladies of tinsel town. He came out with best-selling books on the art of applying make up titled Making Faces and Face Forward, and also spruced up catwalk queens Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Gia, Christie Turlington and many others who would only trust his professional touch when it came to fashion spreads. He also pioneered an entire make-up range for non-white women and gave them a foundation base of no less than 16 shades—one for every skin tone.

Kevyn served as an inspiration for others who debuted in the field including present-day make-up giants such as Bobby Brown. The high-end brand is now to be found in most upscale stores throughout the US along with most make-up salons and studios, she added.

Nabiha has received 11 years of make-up training, most of which have been while living in New York City. She is also the official trainer for Loreal, Pakistan.

At the workshop in Karachi, she demonstrated the 10-minute makeover on two models of different ages and skin types, but stretch the time frame to include detailed explanations about the use of concealer, primer, foundation, contouring, highlighting, use of blusher, pencil eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, lip colour and eyeshades in flattering shades, as finally loose power to give that perfect flawless finish.
