LAHORE, Jan 21: Under a volunteer-based cleanliness initiative taken by The Environment Protection Fund (TEPF), a non-government organisation, 13 dustbins sponsored by a local business were installed on Zafar Ali road on Saturday.

Up to 400 students of various schools and universities as well as other volunteers participated in what was the largest volunteer-based cleanup drive in the city.

Zafar Ali road runs along a big drain and is a prime dumping site for unscrupulous citizens and businesses.

TEPF CEO Zar Aslam thanked other government departments, including the Parks and Horticultural Authority (PHA), for allowing free-of-cost advertising of the event.

The volunteers, especially schoolchildren, who were quite excited during the clean-up drive, sharing their feelings with Dawn said that by participating in the event they wanted to make the citizens realise that cleanliness should be their top priority.

'We don't get tired while carrying out this job as we are serving a cause for Pakistan and overall environment, said a volunteer from St.

Anthony School, Lawrence Road.

The CEO said the basic idea behind the drive was to create a sense of community services and to inculcate social responsibility among the youth.

She said when a child completed 48 working hours of working for the clean-up drive, he or she was given a certificate.
