HYDERABAD, Nov 28: Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, on Thursday granted protective bail for 10 days to Aurangzeb, a jailer of Central Jail, Hyderabad, in the sum of Rs50,000.

The bail application was filed by Qurban Ali Chohan on behalf of Aurangzeb.

The jailer is an absconder in the murder of an under-trial prisoner, Mehmood Khoso, who had died due to violence on March 15.

Following the murder of Mehmood Khoso, his brother, Ghulam Rasool, had moved the Sindh High Court to order the registration of an FIR against the jail officials.

The Baldia police station, under the orders of the Sindh High Court and on the complaint of Ghulam Rasool, registered a murder case against the jail superintendent, Malik Altaf Awan; the deputy superintendent, Aijaz Haider; and jailer Aurangzeb among others.

Arguing on the bail application, Qurban Ali Chohan submitted before the Sindh High Court that except for the relatives of the killed prisoner, Mehmood Khoso, the other prisoners, who were eyewitnesses, had clearly stated that Mehmood had died because of a scuffle with a prisoner, Khan, and that his client had not committed any violence.

Mr Chohan further argued that the additional advocate-general, Sindh, had submitted that the prisoner killed had been involved in nine criminal cases.

The judge granted 10 days protective bail to Aurangzeb and ordered that he should seek remedy from the trial court.—Bureau
