KARACHI, Jan 18: Revival of Kashmir Cup, introducing an Inter-school event at the national level, raising the standard of referees and coaches and help form teams in departments are some of the measures planned by the Sindh Basketball Association in the coming years.

'Kashmir Cup, which was held twice in the past, will be revived soon,' Brig (retd) Rashid Malik, president of the association, who pioneered the cup, said the other day. Addressing members of the association while chairing the general body meeting in his office he regretted that basketball, which is one of the most popular game, has suffered a lot during the last one decade due to bad governance.

He added that a comprehensive plan will be chalked out to scout talent by initiating Inter-school tourney for both boys and girls as spending money on old horses will be a waste.

Malik, a former Pakistan captain, said he has work out plans to bring lucrative sponsorship for the schools event. When materialised, it will yield fruitful results in some three to four years, he added.

Continuing, he said, efforts would be made to upgrade standard of technical officials which has drastically gone down due to lack of activities.

The former secretary of Pakistan Basketball Federation informed the participants that he will apprise the high officials of banks, Kesc and other departments to reorganise basketball teams which now ceased to exist.

Earlier, secretary of the association, former international Abdul Nasir presented four-year report before the members which was highly appreciated. The meeting also approved the audited accounts for 2008-2011.

Meanwhile, the next four-year elections of the association will be held on Jan 31.
