BAHAWALPUR, Nov 27: A dry spell poses a serious threat to humans and livestock in Cholistan.

Sources said the Cholistanis were eagerly waiting for rain. However, there is none forecast for near future.

Most of the 1,000 ponds in the desert have dried up, and there is nothing left for the cows and sheep to graze in Cholistani meadows.

Cholistan had only one rainfall this year in July.

The Cholistan Development Authority and the Bahawalpur Irrigation Department are currently working on a number of projects to provide drinking water to Cholistanis. However, these projects will take time to materialize.
