Murder case against three cops, 6 farmers

SAHIWAL, Nov 27: On the orders of the Lahore High Court (Multan bench), Yousafwala police on Wednesday registered a murder case against three policemen and six farmers.

Imtiaz Posti of Chak 72/5-L, a suspect in the murder case, was arrested by Yousafwala police. On Sept 1 last, the police were returning to Yousafwala after getting his physical remand when in his bid to escape Imtiaz allegedly jumped from the vehicle into the canal and drowned. Later, his body was recovered from the canal.

Manzoor Ahmad in his writ petition to Multan bench had stated that his son Imtiaz had been arrested from Chak 72/5-L. He alleged that Yousafwala police and the complainant party subjected his son to severe torture. They threw his son into the canal when he was almost dead and later staged the drama of his escape just to save their skin.

On the direction of the judge, the murder case has been registered against SI Baqar Ali, constables Saeed Ahmed, Amin, Ashiq and farmers Khan Muhammad, Latif, Hassan, Binyamin, Iqbal and Bashir.

JUDICIAL REMAND: Civil Lines police on Wednesday managed 14 days judicial remand of two under-trail accused and consigned them to the Central Jail.

The accused had shot at and injured three policemen in the judicial lockup of district courts on Monday. Police also recovered an illicit pistol of 30 bore and four bullets from the custody of one of the accused persons.

Muhammad Yousaf Oad and Ansar Abbas were brought from the Central Jail for their production before court. Yousaf in a bid to escape shot at and injured three constables when they opened the judicial lockup. Later, both Yousaf and Ansar were caught by other policemen. Police are still raiding at different places to arrest the woman who had given pistol to the accused in the judicial lockup.

Meanwhile, the seriously injured constable, Muhammad Younas, is shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, for his serious condition.

STAFF INCREASED: After the incident of rioting on Nov 14 this month, IGP (Prisons) Parvez Rahim Rajput has tighten the security measures by increasing the strength of police staff in the Central Jail.

At many as 80 warders and head warders were transferred to the Central Jail from other prisons in the Punjab.

A condemned prisoner had been killed and several other prisoners were injured in police firing when the angry prisoners set ablaze gallows and jail record in protest.

SLAUGHTER HOUSES: The Punjab government on Wednesday ordered construction of new slaughter houses at tehsil and district levels to provide the people good quality meat and beef.

The slaughter houses in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Multan will be declared as model after the construction.

WARRANTS: On the orders of the Labour Court, the local Tehsildar issued non-bailable arrest warrants for a transporter.

A transport company headed by Mian Safdar Farishta had dismissed labourer Izhar Ahmad without fulfilling the rules of labour laws. On the appeal of Izhar, the Labour Court had directed the transporter to pay Rs78,485 compensation money to the labourer, but he did not comply with court orders.
