Graveside charm ends in disaster for woman, others

 

ISLAMABAD: A woman got into trouble in a bid to effect the return of her estranged husband through the charm of an amulet (tawiz) she received from a spiritual healer.

The woman, Nighat Bibi, a resident of Sargodha and three other persons were arrested on Thursday as they were digging an old grave in Kuri Road graveyard to bury the amulet.

The arrest was made when the caretaker spotted an aged woman, a young man and two gravediggers who were digging the grave of Khadija Bibi.

The caretaker immediately informed her son, Malang Shah who reached there.

Later, the caretaker and Malang Shah approached the digging party and asked the reason behind digging the grave. Besides, they also called the police at the spot.During interrogation, Nighat Bibi told police that she had strained relations with her husband who left her some time ago. Since then, his whereabouts were not known.

Over the issue, she approached a spiritual healer who gave her an amulet (tawiz) with the instruction to bury it in an old grave to get her husband back. She said that she along with her son Imran Riaz came to the graveyard at Kuri Road and asked the gravediggers to spot an old grave to bury the amulet.

The two gravediggers Ashraf Gondal and Walid were paid Rs2,000 for the purpose.

The police arrested them and registered a case under section PPC-297 (trespassing on burial places). Later, they were produced in the court of area magistrate who sent them to jail on judicial remand.— Staff Reporter
