KARACHI, Jan 7: The PSO 13th Inter School Scrabble Championship will be played at Beach Luxury hotel on Jan 22. This was announced by the Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in a joint press release on Saturday.

The event is expected to be the largest ever scrabble tournament in Pakistan. Around 400-500 players from the best schools of Karachi are expected to take part.

The popularity of scrabble is on the rise after Pakistan’s impressive performance at the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Dec, 2011, where Pakistan finished fifth.

This is an individual event. Students of all schools and colleges (up to grade 12 or A-Level) can take part. Players will be divided into ‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’ categories while an elitegroup of top 16 youth players is placed in a special category named ‘International Masters’.

The top 25 players will be picked for training and coaching for the 2012 World Youth Scrabble Championship, which will be played in England in December.

The last date for registration is Jan 19. The entry is on first-come-first-serve basis. Entry forms can be obtained from the Beach Luxury hotel or can be downloaded from www.pakistanscrabble.org.
