LAHORE, Nov 25: The Punjab education department on Monday fired seven teachers, including the Joint Action Committee chairman Nazim Hasnain, for violation of rules and regulations and taking part in agitation against the government.
Nazim Hasnain was serving as assistant professor in political science at Government Islamia College, Railway Road.
Other six teachers sacked under the Removal from Service (special powers) Ordinance, 2000, are: Majid Wazir, chairman of the JAC, Lahore division, and lecturer in political science at the Government Shalimar College, Baghbanpura; Abdul Khaliq, joint secretary of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association and lecturer in Arabic at Government Dyal Singh College; Mehboob Husain, JAC central information secretary and lecturer in Pakistan Studies at Government College of Education, Lower Mall; Muhammad Ijtaba and Muhammad Arif, assistant professors in physics and zoology, respectively, at Government MAO College; and Noorul Haq, assistant professor in Urdu at the Government FC College.
An education department spokesman said the teachers had been terminated after completion of all legal formalities.
He also issued a warning that the government would take strict disciplinary action against such employees of the education department who would be involved in negative activities.
