ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has invited applications for the by-elections to the national and provincial assemblies’ seats from the party candidates.

PPP acting secretary-general Mian Raza Rabbani on Sunday asked the prospective candidates to send in their written applications addressed to the Party chairperson at the address of the Bilawal House, Clifton, Karachi.

The applications accompanied with a bank draft of Rs25,000 in respect for the National Assembly and Rs15,000 for a provincial assembly seat should reach the Bilawal House by Dec 5, he said.

According to another announcement of the party Abdul Akbar Khan had been appointed as the parliamentary party leader of the PPP in the NWFP Assembly, whereas Iftikhar Khan Jhagra and Zahir Shah had been appointed as the chief whip and the whip, respectively.

Making the announcement on Sunday the president of the PPP, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, said that the appointments were made after consultations with the PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto.

Meanwhile, Mr Rabbani has expressed concern over the postponement of Sindh Assembly session and said it betrayed mala fide intention.

He said it was a matter of grave concern that the notification summoning the Sindh Assembly to meet on Nov 25 was withdrawn and the assembly summoned to meet on the Nov 28. “This act of the regime is strongly condemned,” he said.

He further said: “The delay in the summoning of the Sindh Assembly is based on mala fide intention and is an attempt to subvert the mandate of the people by trying to impose a minority government in Sindh.

“The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian is the majority party of Sindh and it is its constitutional and political right to form the government without interference of the federal government,” he added.
