Power, water supplied to Swat villages

MINGORA, Nov 24: An amount of Rs 6.9 million has been spent on the supply of electricity to five villages and water to 10 villages in Union Council Tirat of Swat district.

A number of other schemes including the Qandeel bridge would be completed by end of the next year with a cost of Rs two million under Malakand Rural Development Project.

This was stated by Mian Shahid Ali, Nazim of the Union Council here on Sunday.

He said about Rs 280,000 would be spent on the Qandeel bridge, adding that Rs 100,000 had been spent so far on the construction of streets in Madyan.

He said the problem of water supply had been solved in villages of Bar Koro, Koz Koro, Shagai, Musagay, Koz Shamizay, Bar Shahmizay, Tirat Dara, Damana and Kalagram. He said the provision of electricity was a long-standing demand of the people of different villages of Tirat Dara.

The government girls middle school Qandeel has been provided with furniture and some 300 people had been provided timber quota for their personal use during the last year, which has greatly helped in the preservation of forests, the Nazim added.

Some 103 disputes had been resolved amicably in the jurisdiction of the Union Council.

He said planning had been completed to bring the Tirat Union Council at par with the developed areas.
