ATTOCK, Dec 28: Hundreds of people including traders, religious leaders and students staged a protest rally on Wednesday against the police’s failure  to arrest the murderers of a local trader despite passing of two weeks since the incident took place.

The protesters were holding banners inscribed with demands to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

They were also chanting slogans against the incident and police apathy towards solving the blind murder of Haji Mohammad Afzaal.

Addressing the participants of the rally at Fowarah Chowk, the local religious and traders’ leaders including President Markazi Jammat Ahle Sunnat Dr Qazi Amjid Hussain Saifi, Maulana Hanif Ahmed, chief organiser district Seerat Committee Haji Ilyas and deceased’s brother Haji Almas, and uncle Haji Abbas said  the police were clueless about the murder of Mr Afzaal, who was kidnapped from main bazaar on Dec 17 by some unknown persons and later killed.

They said such incidents not only terrified the local business community but also concerned the general public.

On the occasion, the police officials assured the protesters that the criminals would be arrested at the earliest. Later the protesters dispersed peacefully.
