RAWALPINDI, Dec 24: The first year students were left in utter shock on Saturday when Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rawalpindi declared incomplete Higher Secondary School Certificate Part-I (HSSC-I) result withholding marks of objective portions of the papers.

The board officials came up with a unique justification for announcing the incomplete result saying that students would be given the same marks in their first year objective sections what they would secure in the objective sections of the papers in second year.

The students would now have to wait for another year to see their combined result cards.

“We withheld the result of the objective portions of the first year papers on the ground that previously fictitious marks were awarded to students by the then board authorities.

“Now the students would be given the same marks in the objective sections of the papers what they would secure in the objective portions in second year exam,” Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Chairman Dr Mohammad Qasim explained to media after announcing the result.

The students, however, were dissatisfied with the result and expressed anger over withholding the marks of their objective sections saying the decision was irrational.

“This is completely absurd that a student will be given the same marks in first year which he receives in the objective papers of second year. I want the marks for the questions I have attempted in first year,” Raja Salim Javed, a student told Dawn.

Similarly, Adil Qureshi, another student, expressed his anger over this method of the board and demanded of the BISE to add the marks of the objective sections to their aggregates.

“This solution by our board is enough to spark anger and protest of the students once again against the authorities. It makes no sense to deprive them of their deserved marks. The board must announce the marks of objective papers,” a BISE official said on condition of anonymity.

However, the BISE chairman argued that previously the students had been given less marks in their objective sections and added that withholding of the objective results would help students increase their marks in second year exam.

But, Adil Qureshi, a student argued that he attempted the objective section well. “It is not certain whether I will be able to score big marks in second year, so it is better to give me marks I deserve in first year exam,” he added.

Earlier, the students faced difficulties in searching their results on the website and continued contacting spokesman for Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Arsalan Ali Cheema whose mobile number remained switched off the whole day.

The heavy police contingent deployed around the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education premises would remain there until the district administration is convinced that the students would not hold any demonstration there.
