KARACHI, Nov 21: There has been a 24 per cent increase in students from Pakistan acquiring education in the United States in the academic year 2001-2 as compared with the previous year.

This was stated by public affairs officer of the US consulate general In Karachi, Lonnie Kelly, while talking to APP here on Thursday.

“That is phenomenal when you have a major crisis in the United States and around the world such as 9/11. So I don’t see a negative effect. The United States is still looked at as a country with the premier institutions for education,” he said.

Kelly stated that a student advising centre would be opened up in collaboration with the American Centre of the US consulate in Karachi in January next year.

He said the centre would advise students as to which universities in the United States might be the best ones and provide them with information about the universities in the United States. He added that the centre would also help students in the entire educational process.—APP
