LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 29: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and current opposition leader in the provincial assembly Akram Durrani on Tuesday urged the government to disassociate itself from the US-led anti-terrorism war, which, he said, has endangered the country's sovereignty.

He was speaking during a public meeting in Mammakhel village near Naurang town.

Former federal minister and MNA Maulana Attaur Rehman, MPA Mufti Kifayatullah, ex-Senator Qari Mohammad Abdullah and local elder Mufti Abdul Shakoor also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Durrani condemned the Nato bombing of Pakistani troops in Mohmand Agency and said it was a direct attack on the country's sovereignty.

“The people are against the US and therefore, civilian and military leadership should review its policies towards it and announce disassociation from the US-led war on terrorism,” he said.

The former chief minister said the day Pakistan pulled itself out of the war on terror, militancy and terrorism on its soil would automatically end.

He said suspension of Nato supplies and directions to the US troops for vacating Shamsi airbase was not a permanent solution to the current crisis, adding that only solid steps could stop Nato from attacking Pakistani forces in future.

Mr Durrani said the Awami National Party-led government was not sincere in resolving the people's problems and alleged that funds meant for development of southern districts of the province were being spent in Mardan, the native district of chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti.
