IDPs threaten more protests
PESHAWAR, Nov 23: The internally displaced persons of Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency continued their token hunger for the third consecutive day on Wednesday against the military operation in the area. They urged the government to register all the dislocated people as IDPs otherwise they will continue the protests.
The IDPs had set up the camp along the Sher Shah Suri Road near Peshawar Press Club under the supervision of ‘Tehrik-i-Mutasireen Bara’ which was largely attended by the tribesmen, who wore black armbands, hoisted black flags and banners inscribed with their demands. Jamaat-i-Islami Fata amir, former MNA Haroon-ur-Rasheed also participated in the strike.—Bureau Report
Body recovered
KOHAT, Nov 23: The police found the body of an unidentified man in Kurk area of Gumbat on Wednesday.
The police said the deceased, in his 40s, had no mark of bullet wound and it seemed that he suffered a heart failure.
Meanwhile, a boy got himself injured while attempting to commit in suicide with a pistol after his parents forced him to go to a seminary in Jarma area on Wednesday.
The police said the parents of the boy, Adnan, told police he was not willing to go to seminary but they wanted him to learn Quran and other religious subjects. He was shifted to Peshawar in critical condition.—Correspondent
Muharram plan ready
TANK, Nov 23: Police have drawn up plan to maintain peace during Muharram in the district.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday the DPO Ijaz Abid said a control room had been set up in his office which will work round the clock during Muharram and will remain in touch with field force. “We have divided the district in three sectors with all exit and entry points would be strictly monitored during the 10 days of Muharram starting from Nov 27,” he said. “We have also placed restrictions on leave of police to ensure best possible security arrangements for Muharram,” he said.Security men would be deployed in areas adjacent to Dera Ismail Khan.—Correspondent
Playgrounds for students
KARAK, Nov 23: Director Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Rafiq Khattak, has said playgrounds will be provided to each school of Karak district to promote healthy activities among the students.
He was addressing the annual sport day function as the chief guest at the government higher secondary school Ahmadabad on Wednesday. He directed EDO education Haziqur Rehman Khattak to prepare the feasibilities report and estimate of the playgrounds. —Correspondent
