ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday started consultations with high civilian and military officials regarding an investigation into the memogate scandal which had already cost Ambassador Husain Haqqani his post in Washington, DawnNews reported.

According to a statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday night, Haqqani was asked to resign from his position after the government announced it would initiate a ‘detailed probe’ into allegations that the former envoy sought American help for preventing a possible military takeover in May.

Moreover, the Abbottabad commission probing the May 2 incident has decided to include Haqqani in the investigation and has called him to appear before it.

In another related development, a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security has been called for November 25.

The meeting is to be held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Senator Raza Rabbani and would discuss the scandal and other issues.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML - N) had earlier demanded the convening of the meeting.
