LAHORE: The six-man United States Investment Development Mission to Pakistan, led by David E. Westley, met senior officials of the West Pakistan government here yesterday. During the meeting with Provincial Secretary for Industries and Commence A.M.K. Mazari, the mission was briefed on the salient features of the facilities and programmes initiated by the present regime for the speedy development and growth of industry and commercial activities, and to ensure a fair investment climate.

Earlier, the members of the mission called on the Governor, Malik Amir Mohammad Khan, and Provincial Chief Secretary Syed Fida Hasan.

The controller of imports and exports explained to the mission that after the approval of a project by the Investment Promotion Bureau, there should be no difficulty in obtaining licences for importing raw material and other requirements. The WAPDA representative assured that power was available at all such places where industrial units could be set up.

The mission suggested that there should be a time limit for the disposal of an application for a joint venture as well as for starting construction of the plan approved by the Bureau.

Later, addressing a meeting of the Lahore Chambers of Commerce, Mr Westley said that the mission proposed to circulate an official report among the American businessmen on its return to the United States. The report will discuss the merits of investment in Pakistan, he said.

King Saud in failing health

BEIRUT: The condition of King Saud of Saudi Arabia has deteriorated, according to the latest reports reaching here yesterday. The king flew into Dharan from Riyad, where he was admitted to the American Hospital, a day earlier on the urgent advice of his doctors.— Agencies
