LONDON, Nov 17: Liverpool missed out on the chance to return to the top of the English premier league when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Sunderland Sunday.

Second-placed Liverpool closed to within one point of leaders Arsenal, who went back to the top with their 3-0 win over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur Saturday.
