Three schools blown up in KP

SWABI, Nov 13: Unidentified saboteurs blew up three government-run schools in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by planting bombs at their buildings, officials said.

They said that a primary school for girls was blown up in Razaar tehsil of Swabi district on the night between Saturday and Sunday. Five out of the seven rooms of the primary school for girls No.3 in Shewa were destroyed when two bombs planted in its veranda went off at night. The explosions were heard in far off villages.

The Kalu Khan police station officials rushed to the area after the incident and collected evidence. “The building can no longer be used and 226 students of the school will be shifted to nearby education institutions,” said an official.

The incident occurred a week after the killing of Awami National Party leader Hanif Gul Jadoon in a suicide bombing in the district. Three days ago, a CD shop was also blown up in Yar Hussain area of Swabi.

In Nowshera district, a primary school was blown up by unidentified militants in Taru Jabba area of Pabbi on Sunday morning.

Police said that the building of government primary school No.1 Taru Jabba was badly damaged when explosives planted there went off at around 5:30 am in the morning. They said that eight kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.

Police said that two classrooms, veranda and boundary wall of the school were completely destroyed in the incident.

The residents of the area said that the blast also caused minor damage to the houses, situated near the school. The Pabbi police station registered a case and started investigation.In Bannu district, a government higher secondary school for girls in Ghalla Mandi area of the city was partially damaged when a locally made bomb, planted at the boundary wall of its building, went off at night.

According to the bomb disposal squad, at least eight to 10 kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. The officials said that it was a remote controlled explosive device.

The blast was so powerful that it smashed the windowpanes of the nearby buildings, said residents of the area.
