KARACHI, Nov 12: A woman and her three-year-old adopted son were crushed to death while her 22-year-old biological son sustained serious injuries when afast-moving dumper truck hit their motorbike near the Gurumandir traffic intersection on Saturday, police said.
They said that the accident led to a severe traffic jam on Business Recorder Road and its adjoining arteries, as it took the police and rescue workers almost an hour to retrieve the bodies that had became stuck under the wheels of the heavy vehicle.
“The deceased have been identified as Hasina Salam in her mid-40s and her adopted son Waqas,” said Sub-Inspector Humayun Khan, the SHO of the Jamshed Quarters police station.“Exact details of the accident are not yet available, but according to our assessment the dumper truck hit the motorbike carrying the three members of the family when it was crossing the main Gurumandir traffic intersection.”
The woman’s son, Muhammad Farman, also sustained serious injuries and was operated upon at the Civil Hospital Karachi, the SHO said, adding that the victims’ family lived in Sector 5-G of New Karachi.
“We have impounded the dumper truck bearing registration number PKW-525 and also arrested its driver, who insisted that he had followed the traffic signal but eyewitnesses told the police that it was his reckless driving that caused the accident.”
