HYDERABAD, Nov 16: As many as 530 development schemes of Hyderabad, Badin and Thatta districts were reviewed at a meeting held at the Shahbaz Hall here on Friday.
The additional chief secretary, planning and development, Shahzado Shaikh, presided over the meeting.
He informed the meeting Rs679.810 million had been earmarked for 256 Annual Development Programmes (ADP) and Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) schemes of Hyderabad district, Rs364.618 million for 140 ADP and KPP schemes of Badin district and more than Rs360 million would be provided for 134 ADP and KPP schemes of Thatta district during the current financial year.
He said in addition to development schemes being carried out by the district governments, Rs167.577 million had been earmarked for 50 schemes being executed by the Sindh government departments.
This allocation include Rs30.313 million for 18 schemes of Hyderabad district, Rs97.750 million for 21 schemes of Thatta district and Rs39.514 million for uplift schemes of Badin district.
Shaikh expressed his dissatisfaction over the pace of development works.
He said the proper utilization of the fund reserved for development schemes would provide more job opportunities to people.
He directed authorities of district governments and the provincial government to ensure the development fund was utilized by June 30, 2003, failing which action would be taken against the persons concerned.
He said a survey would be conducted to know as to why every year a huge amount was being surrendered, and remove the bottlenecks.
He said action would be taken against the officers concerned for delaying the issuance of the Draft Release Orders of their development schemes.
He said Rs10 million had been allocated for the extension of the Hyderabad Site and directed the authorities concerned to submit report in this regard in 15 days.
To a query about 230 candidates who were interviewed and selected for posts of teachers one year back but were still not issued appointment letters, Shaikh asked the additional secretary, education, Anwar Ahmedzai, to get the matter immediately resolved.
He said the government was giving priority to the development of the water sector and said feasibility reports for small dams should be prepared to resolve the problem of water shortage in the province.
