Clash between rivals leaves bystander dead

LAHORE, Nov 4: An armed clash between the henchmen of two local groups allegedly claimed the life of an elderly man, who was passing by the crime scene, in Islampura on Friday.

Quoting witnesses, the police said that indiscriminate firing between armed men near MAO College just before dusk also caused panic among locals and they ran for shelter. However, 70-year-old Shahab-ud-Din, of the same locality, fell victim to a couple of bullets fired by the members of Humayun Butt and Bobi Gujjar groups, who earlier had a scuffle that prompted both sides to resort to firing.

The exchange of bullets continued for 15 minutes after which Shahab-ud-Din was shifted to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The body was sent for autopsy. No case has been registered till the filing of this report.

SHOT DEAD: A youth was shot dead allegedly by his relatives over a minor dispute in Harbanspura on Friday.

The police said Sajawal, a resident of Kotli Ghat, was playing cards with his two relatives, including Ishtiaq, alias Bhola, in the street. They exchanged hot words with each other over a minor issue which led to a brawl.

Quoting locals and family members, the police said Ishtiaq, alias Bhola, and his accomplices left the place only to emerge after some time with weapons. They shot at Sajawal, injuring him critically, and fled. The victim succumbed to his wounds on his way to a hospital.

The police registered a case against suspects on the complaint of Sajawal’s brother Imran after sending the body for autopsy.
