LAHORE, Nov 15: Federal Law Minister Dr Khalid Ranjha has said the power would be transferred to the elected representatives completely but the revival of constitution could take up to one year.

Talking to newsmen after the launching ceremony of a book on the constitution at the Alhamra Art Centre here on Friday, he said the government had not taken any final decision on the revival of the constitution so far. It had the options of restoring the entire constitution in one go or reviving it in parts. Both the options had been kept open.

He said the revival of the constitution would take a year in case it was done in parts.

Dr Ranjha said the newly-elected assembly members would take oath under the constitution but did not specify as to whether it would be the 1973 Constitution or the one amended through the Legal Framework Order.

About the formation of a forward bloc in the PPP, he said those forming the bloc had not left their party.

He said the defection clause had been amended allowing the assembly members to cast their vote even against the party stand on matters other than a money bill or a no confidence motion.
