KARACHI, Oct 31: Trading on the cotton market on Monday resumed on an easy note due to sharp fall in mill demand owing to delivery problems, market sources said.

Most of the spinners and mills failed to get delivery of their purchased consignments before the long weekend ahead owing partly to the absence of cargo haulers who were busy in transporting sacrificial animals, brokers said.

But those who did not need immediate supplies were active buyers on the falling prices of the Punjab lint between Rs5,500 to Rs5,800 per maund and lifted some big lots including 4,000 bales from Rahimyar Khan ginneries at Rs5,700.

Floor brokers said prices were expected to ease further before Eidul Azha as the market appeared to have been slipped into the hands of retailers.

But some others hoped that drying of phutti arrivals could push prices again higher because of pressure on ready supplies.

Major fall was noted in lower Sindh type which was traded as lower as Rs4,500 per maund, while its fine varieties were sold between Rs5,300 to Rs5,700 per maund.

Official spot rates were again held unchanged at the weekend level of Rs5,750 per maund but in the ready section bulk of business both in Sindh and Punjab types were done well below them.
