GUJRANWALA, Nov 16: The teachers of the elementary schools for boys and girls, Kamoki circle, on Friday protested for being deied salaries for the last three months.
A number of teachers told newsmen that ever since the transfer of the deputy district education officer, teachers had been denied salaries as no body could pass their pay bills.
They urged the authorities concerned to resolve their problem to save them from financial hardships.
SCHEDULE: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Friday announced the schedule of admission to annual examination of secondary schools, 2002.
Board secretary Muhammad Ahtaram Dar informed that the last date for receiving admission forms was fixed Dec 12, both for private and regular candidates while Jan 14 with double fee and Jan 31 with triple fee.
He said admission fee for science group would be Rs580 from private and Rs500 from regular candidates. In general group, private candidates would pay Rs500 while regular candidates would pay Rs420.
The enrolment fee of Rs225 would be received once from those candidates who would be appearing for the first time in the annual examination, he added.
Annual examination would commence from March 2.
ARRESTED: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested 1,368 proclaimed offenders, 1,135 fugitives and dozens of gangs of dacoits with booty during a special drive launched against the culprits till Oct 31.
SSP Muhammad Aslam Tarin told newsmen here on Friday that around 422 rifles, 316 revolvers, 842 pistols, 121 carbines, 10 Kalashnikoves, two steinguns, 5,128 rounds, looted goods worth Rs59 million and illegal liquor were recovered.
He claimed graph of the crime had curved in the district due to solid steps taken by police.
SHOT DEAD: An aspirant of National Assembly seat in general elections, 1996, was gunned down by an assailant in Naushera Virkan on Friday.
Reports reaching here revealed Muhammad Husain Chaudhry of Botala Sharam Singh village was defeated in the elections, NA-77.
On Friday, he was on his way back from a market when the assailant opened fire on him near general councillor Nazir Husain’s house, killing him on the spot.
The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.
Police sent the body to mortuary for autopsy and registered a case.
Meanwhile, a mediator was shot dead while a passerby schoolteacher sustained injuries during a clash between two groups in Naushera Virkan.
Around 10 people were quarrelling in Saipra village while Jabir Husain was trying to mediate between them. He was entrapped during the exchange of firing. Passerby Zabtey Khan sustained bullet injuries. He was taken to the Civil Hospital in precarious condition.
Police have registered a case against the culprits and are investigating.
