WE, the final year LLM students of various law colleges, want to draw the attention of the authorities concerned of the University of Karachi, including the Vice-Chancellor and the Controller of Examinations, to the injustice done to us in the shape of providing us a very short time to prepare our dissertations.
October 31 has been fixed as the last date for submitting our dissertaions, with a late fee of Rs2,000 along with the original fee of Rs10,000. Usually, students are given an entire year for thesis work after the approval of their thesis topics, but it is a different story this year. The thesis topics were approved at the end of September by the interview panel which fixed Oct 15 as the last date for submission of our dissertations.
As a result, the university decision left students with only 15 days to complete their dissertations. However, the university has once again extended the time to Oct 31, along with a late fee of Rs2,000. It appears that the extension till Oct 31 is also not enough to complete any thesis.
This is because those who have already been working on their theses since the beginning of the year were given new thesis topics to complete these in 15 days’ time, i.e. by Oct 15, and now by Oct 31, along with a late fee. The affected students appeal to the vice-chancellor and the controller of examinations to extend the date for submission of the LLM thesis to Nov 30 to compensate for the changed topics .
