PESHAWAR, Nov 14: The Inspector General of Police, NWFP, Mohammad Saeed Khan, has expressed anguish and dismay over the unruly traffic in the city and directed the traffic officials to improve their performance.

The police chief in the light of the increasing public complaints about the mismanagement and traffic violations in Peshawar on Thursday, visited the general bus stands at Hashtnagri, Suri Pul, Nothia, Stadium Chowk, and Warsak Road areas and saw for himself the hazardous traffic.

Khan expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the police and the way traffic was being managed.

He took strong notice of the traffic-jam on the Grand Trunk Road in front of the general bus stand and directed the police to penalize violators.

During his brief stay, the IGP noticed vehicles without number plates with tinted glass. He ordered that these vehicles be impounded. The IGP also expressed anguish over the traffic jamming at Suri Pul, Nothia and Stadium Chowk.

Khan also directed the police to remain on duty during the day and even after Iftar. He also said that too many U-turns must not be allowed and that cops must not be tempted to accept bribe in the form of Eidi. He warned that those found guilty would be punished.

DIG Traffic Sajid, Owas Agha, was also with the IG during the visit.
