4 killed in separate incidents

CHAKWAL, Oct 18: Four persons were killed while three others sustained serious injuries in three separate incidents, police said on Tuesday.

In the first incident, two boys, Mohammad Aihtesham, 17, Riaz Umer, 16, of Dhurnal village of tehil Talagang were drowned in Dhurnal dam as they were grazing their buffaloes near it when they slipped into water and were drowned.

In another incident, a young man was killed while three others were injured in an accident. Bilal Mustafa, Shakeel, Fatima and Zainab, residents of Madina Town were coming to Chakwal from Rawapindi when their car (RL 2698) rammed into a tree near Jatli town.

Resultantly, Bilal Mustafa died on the spot while three others received serious injuries. The injured were rushed to the DHQ hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition.

In the third incident, an unknown elderly man was killed on the road in Talagang city as a car hit him.

The police registered separate cases and started investigation.— Correspondent

Students honoured

ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday honoured the students who won medals at the International Science Olympiads in biology, chemistry and physics held in Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey respectively.

HEC Chairman Dr Javaid R Laghari gave away the awards to the students at a ceremony that marked the seventh National Science Talent Contest (NSTC). All the members of the Pakistani team won bronze medals in the Olympiads Speaking high about the talented youth of Pakistan, Dr Leghari said that the country was blessed with an abundance of natural resources as well as bright young minds, however, it was only through education that the country would be able to utilise natural resources fully and make rapid progress like developed countries of the world.— Our Reporter

Trader looted

TAXILA, Oct 18: Four armed bandits looted cash and other valuables worth Rs1.8 million from a local trader in limits of Wah Cantonment police on Tuesday and fled.

Police sources said that local trader Qazi Babar was on his way home after closing his shop when four robbers intercepted him and snatched  his car with cash and mobile phone cards.

Later the snatched car was found from Cantonment Board Park.

Two buried alive

TAXILA, Oct 18: Two persons were buried alive while another injured in a village near Hassanabdal while digging a well on Tuesday.

Hospital and rescue sources said that Fazal Azeem, 56, along with Shamroz Khan, 34, and Mumraiz Khan, 34, digging well in Pind Mehri village in limits of Hassanabdal when the earth caves in resultantly Fazal Azeem and Shamroz Khan  buried alive  while Mumraiz Khan received multiple injuries.

After toiling for two hours, the rescuers succeeded in retrieving the body of the deceased.— Correspondent
