HYDERABAD, Nov 16: The Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench here the other day directed the DIG of police, Mirpurkhas, to submit his report pertaining to a joint petitions of two citizens, alleging the police harassment and ordered the SHO of Tando Allahyar police station to produce evidence in a crime that was claimed to have been collected against the brother of a petitioner.
The court adjourned the matter to Nov 28.
On Nov 8, the court had asked the DIG of police of Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas to submit their report pertaining to the petitions of Mohammad Farooq and Mohammad Shahid.
SSPs of Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad, an ASI and a constable were shown as respondents in the matter. Qurban Ali H. Chohan, advocate, represented the petitioners.
In response to a court order, the respondents filed their comments, denying the allegations levelled against them by the petitioners.
They had claimed that Ashfaq, brother of the petitioner, Mohammad Farooq, was a suspect in crime No. 140 of Tando Allahyar police station, which was lodged on June 28, and only preliminary enquiries were being made by police officials through Nekmard of the area.
Consequently, they claimed, the petition was filed in order to thwart the investigation, levelling false allegations against police officials.
The petitioners alleged that police officials were extending threats to them and requested the court to direct policemen to remain within the limits of law.
The court noted that ASI Riaz Soomro was required to furnish complete details of crime No 140.
Similarly, the court ordered that a report should be called from the DIG of police, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas to submit detail list of cases, pending against them or their families.
The petitioners said that during midnight of Oct 17-18 a police party led by ASI Riaz Soomro trespassed into the house of Mohammad Farooq, terrorised his family and threatened them with dire consequences.
He said that when Abdul Razzaq, father of Farooq, asked the police why they had come to his house they informed that they wanted to nab Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ashfaq.
It was claimed in the petition that police officials used abusive language against the womenfolk and left the house after they did not find any of the required persons.
The police officials had warned that if the two wanted persons did not surrender to the police they would be implicated in false criminal cases.
The next day, the petitioners said, the said ASI along with other policemen struck at the residence of Mohammad Shahid in Gharibabad area of Mirpurkhas to arrest him. The family raised hue and cry attracting the attention of area people.
