LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 500,000 to each family with a member who fell prey to the dengue virus, DawnNews reported.
A detailed meeting on how to curb the virus was held at the Chief Minister House. Top government officials briefed Shahbaz Sharif on the situation.
Mr Sharif directed the vigilance committees to submit their reports after inspecting tyre shops in their respective areas.
During the meeting, the chief minister also announced the compensation.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) are expected to stage a rally against the spread of dengue today. The two parties have also announced that they would stage a sit-in in front of the Chief Minister House.
Punjab's former senior minister Raja Riaz and other members of the two parties would partake in the rally.
Moreover, PML-Q's Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has assured Mr Riaz of his party’s full support in the rally against what he called insufficient steps taken by the provincial government against the virus.
