Sagna out for three months with broken leg

LONDON: Arsenal's French right-back Bacary Sagna will be out of action for three months after breaking his leg in Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham, the club confirmed.

Sagna landed awkwardly after a collision with Spurs defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the second half at White Hart Lane and was stretchered off before being taken to hospital for scans.

“The club can confirm that Bacary Sagna sustained a fracture to the fibula in his right leg during the match against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon,” said an Arsenal statement.

“Further detailed investigations and assessments will take place on Monday, during which time Bacary will see ankle specialists and the Arsenal medical team regarding the further management of his injury.

“It is expected that Bacary will be out for approximately three months and a surgical procedure cannot be ruled out at this stage.”

Sagna's injury means he is out of France's final two Euro 2012 qualifiers against Albania and Bosnia, which take place over the next two weeks.

France can finish top of Group D if they take four points from the qualifiers.
