Physical test held

TIMERGARA, Oct 2: More than 700 youth appeared in the physical test held for recruitment in the police department here on Sunday. Addressing the candidates on the occasion, the DPO pointed out that recruitment on 80 posts of constables would be made purely on merit. The DPO supervised the physical test. Four kidnapped in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 2: Afghan Pawindas (nomads) allegedly kidnapped four locals and took away 250 cattle in Kulachi, police said on Sunday.

Rozi Khan, resident of Looni village, told police about 15 armed Afghan nomads attacked his house and kidnapped his four brothers at gunpoint. The kidnappers also took away 250 goats.

The incident is said to be an outcome of old enmity between Gandapur tribe and Afghan nomads.

Meanwhile, two women, Sughran Bibi and Rehana Bibi, were killed while a man was injured when a passenger vehicle hit a motorcycle on Dera-Chashma road the other day.—Correspondent

Illegal poaching

CHITRAL, Oct 2: The government is urged to take notice of the ruthless poaching of Kashmir markhor in Toshi game reserve.

The request was made by Miraj Ahmed Khan Mughal, a social worker from Seen Lusht village near Chitral city in a press statement issued here on Sunday. He alleged the wildlife department was giving a cold shoulder to the appeals of the locals regarding illegal hunting of the rare animals.

He said he reported to the department about the presence of the carcass of an illegally hunted markhor on roadside but the department instead of carrying out its postmortem examination threw it into the river.—Correspondent

KKH blocked

ABBOTTABAD, Oct 2: Over 18 hours of loadshedding on Sunday forced locals to block the Karakuram Highway. The prolonged power outage brought the routine life to a standstill badly affecting supply of drinking water and creating problems for the business community.

Local officials of Pesco expressed their inability to restore the power supply, which, they said, had been disconnected from the main distribution centre in Islamabad. A senior official said the Pesco was unable to give a schedule to the people of power outages in the district.—Correspondent

Man commits suicide

LADDAH, Oct 2: A man of the Dotani tribe, whose wife had died two days ago, committed suicide in the Toi Khula tehsil of South Waziristan Agency on Sunday.

Tribesmen told Dawn the victim, Ibrahim, also tried to poison his eight-year-old son, Aftab, before he committed suicide by eating poison. They said Ibrahim was shocked by the death of his wife. The boy was shifted to the agency headquarters hospital in Wana where doctors washed his stomach and were trying to save his life.—Correspondent
