LAHORE, Nov 10: The All Pakistan Trade Unions Federation condemned on Sunday the recent baton-charge of doctors and teachers, urging the government to take action against those responsible for it.
The baton charge was condemned at a meeting of the federation held under its Secretary-General Gulzar Ahmad Chaudhry here.
The federation expressed solidarity with the protesting doctors and teachers and said the working class would lend them all support for achieving their goal.
Mr.Gulzar Chaudhry regretted that the government was taking anti-people steps so as to obtain loans from international monetary agencies. One such step was privatization under which all profit earning public sector units were being sold out to foreign companies at nominal rates.
He said privatization of educational institutions was also a part of this policy and when teachers and students were protesting against it, they were being tortured. Their only sin was that they were opposing the transformation of education sector into a purely profit earning sector.
He announced that the working class would take part in every future protest rally and meeting by teachers and doctors as a sign of solidarity.
Other speakers urged the government to shun the policy of privatizing educational institutions, accept all demands of teachers and put an end to adhocism in educational institutions.
