DHAKA, Nov 10: Professor Dr Mohammad Yunus, founder of the Dhaka-based Grameen Bank, has recently been appointed Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

Professor Yunus will help bring the message of HIV/AIDS prevention and care to many of the world’s neediest people, said a UNAIDS press release.

“Through the Grameen Bank, Professor Yunus has helped lift people out of poverty and given them a chance to control their own lives, bringing self-sufficiency to millions of poor families,” said Dr Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS.
