ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: The talks between the Grand National Alliance (GNA) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on various aspects of the Legal Framework Order (LFO) and formation of a coalition government, resumed on Saturday.

The dialogue, which remained inconclusive on Friday, entered a crucial phase today and continued till filing of this report.

Before the beginning of Saturday’s talks, the MMA secretary-general and candidate for the office of prime minister, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, told newsmen that the negotiations would cover both issues, formation of a government and the LFO, but added: “We give the latter more importance”.

In the meanwhile, sources said Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, parliamentary head of the PML-Q and a leader of Grand National Alliance, had came up with certain suggestions for the MMA after holding meetings with the government high officials, early in the day.

He was accompanied by a former law minister of the Nawaz Sharif government and MNA-elect, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, to discuss various aspects of the LFO with the MMA leadership and try to convince them about the government views.

The PML-Q leader was nominated by the four majority parties in the National Assembly to bridge a gap between them and the government, and get certain concessions and assurances on the question of the LFO and other contentious issues.

In the second round of talks between the GNA and the MMA on Friday, Chaudhry Shujaat was reminded of his failure in facilitating talks with the government before going to the National Assembly session.

Shujaat led the GNA team comprised Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan of the National Alliance, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, MNA-elect of the PML-Q, while Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Liaquat Baloch were from the MMA.

Before talks, Qazi Hussain held a meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rahman, seeking a briefing on the latter’s talks with Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan and Ijazul Haq earlier in the day.
