Kidnapped trader recovered, four held

TAXILA, Sept 8: The Hassanabdal police on Thursday recovered a trader kidnapped for Rs5 million ransom and arrested four persons.

Police said Junaid Iqbal was abducted from outside his shop at the busy commercial centre of Hassanabdal on August 20.

Addressing a press conference in Hassanabdal, District Police Officer (DPO) Attock Dr Akhter Abbas said police were tipped that the abductors were trying to shift the kidnap victim from Hassanabdal to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said a team led by DSP Mohammad Aslam intercepted a Suzuki van (MR-376) on Pathargarh Road near Jablat bridge early Thursday and recovered the trader. The police also arrested four persons who were travelling in the van.

The alleged kidnappers were identified as Rasheed Khan, a resident of Manshera; Akbar Khan, of Charsadda; Noorzada, of Swat, and Gohar Rehman, of Swabi.

The DPO said huge quantity of rams and ammunition, including one Kalashnikov with three magazines, three pistols and 45 rounds, were also recovered from the possession of the accused. He said police used latest technology to track the culprits.
