Wasan lauds role of police, Rangers in Karachi operation

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan on Thursday said that the operation in Karachi was progressing successfully and had helped in controlling the city's security situation, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Khairpur, Mr Wasan lauded the performance of police and Rangers with regard to the operation.

He further said that the operation was indiscriminate and that the authorities would act wherever "terrorists, extortionists and target killers" took shelter.

Mr Wasan said "no-go areas" would also be eliminated from the city and lasting peace would soon be established.

"The operation in Karachi started on August 10...500 suspects were arrested within 10 days...large quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession," he told reporters.

Mr Wasan said that all political parties were cooperating with the government over the operation.

He moreover said that if the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) joined the government, "we would welcome them".

Mr Wasan said that operations would also be carried out against dacoits and kidnappers in interior Sindh in order to make the province peaceful and secure. — DawnNews
