MANSEHRA, Aug 29: The rescue teams recovered nine more bodies from the banks of Kandia stream of Kohistan valley on Monday.
"The confirmed death toll has now reached 48 in Kandia village monsoon rains tragedy, as the rescue teams have recovered nine more bodies from places alongside the Kandia stream," said Distract Coordination Officer of Kohistan Imtiaz Hussain Shah while talking to reporters.
He said that 14 people were still missing and rescue teams had been making efforts to find them. He said that list of the victims was being finalised so as to provide them compensation.
Meanwhile, the Al-Khidmat Foundation has established a relief camp in Dasu.
FLOOD-HIT SCHOOLS: Minister of State Shahjahan Yousuf has demanded of the government to ask the Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) to include 420 schools destroyed in 2005 earthquake in its reconstruction plan.
"It is a pity that even after almost six years of the tragedy about 420 destroyed schools are still not included in the reconstruction strategy of the Erra. The Erra should rebuild these schools on priority," Mr Yousuf told reporters after attending a briefing given by Provincial Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Perra) here on Sunday.
Chief engineer of Perra Zard Ali Khan gave the briefing to the minister in a meeting which was also attended by representatives of the Perra, communication and works department, Nespak and National Highways Authority.
The minister said that he was astonished to know that about 420 destroyed schools were neither owned by the federal nor by provincial government for reconstruction, adding that he would also take up the issue with the prime minister.
Earlier, Zard Ali said that so far 521 reconstructed schools had been handed over to the education department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the reconstruction work on 382 schools was in progress and work on 250 schools would be started soon.
KILLED: One dacoit was killed in firing by his accomplices during a robbery attempt in Oghi on Sunday night, police said.
They said that a gang of armed dacoits entered the house of one Gul Khan in Nile Batala area and asked the inmates to hand over all the valuables in the house. However, on Mr Khan's resistance the dacoits opened fire on him, which hit and killed one of their own accomplices.
Oghi SHO Mubarak Hussain told reporters that after the incident police received the body of the alleged dacoit identified as Naveed Ahmad of Chamhari area of Darband. The police have lodged an FIR on the complaint of Mr Khan.
